Re-opening of part of the “Via dell’Amore” trail

19 四月 2015

On 2nd April 2015 was reopened the stretch of 300 meters of the “Via dell’Amore” that from the train station of Manarola reaches the Bar dell’Amore. It was closed 2,5 years ago due to the landslide in September of 2012 that caused the wounding of three Australian tourists.

The reopening has been allowed thanks to the safety jobs done on the stretch above the railway station of Manarola and financed by the Italian Railway Network and the Region of Liguria.

The heavy duty works consisted in the installation of very high rockfall barriers fixed with huge rods and the insertion of many nets of steel on the steep rocky slopes. The work was performed with the use of helicopters and highly-specialized personnel, as to say experts climbing with sturdy slings on steep slopes overlooking the sea.Even if only partial, it is the recovery of the most famous path of the Cinque Terre that has made them particularly popular to visitors from all over the world. By the end of the year it should be extended until the tunnel which is located half-way.
