On April 2nd will be held the third edition of the Sciacchetrail, which sees the village of Monterosso point of arrival and departure. The running race will be along the wild trails of Cinque Terre and it is dedicated to the sweet wine symbol of this area: the Sciacchetrà.
Each year the competition coincides with the opening of the tourist season, since the race summarizes the wine culture, the beauty of the landscape and the ability to welcome visitors.
The route will be 47 km long with a vertical drop of 2,600 meters, passing almost entirely along the mythical dirt paths of Cinque Terre with an amazing sea-view and through villages, shrines, scrub forests, lemon groves, vineyards and terraced olive groves contained with dry-stone walls. This year will be part of the competition 3 American runners of the highest level, icons of the ultra-running: Sally McRae, Jenn Shelton and Connie Gardner.
For the first time this year, in addition to the race, in Monterosso will be set up the event “Sciacchetrail Outdoor & Family Village” with lots of activities for children and families. Visitors will be able to experience the wide variety of disciplines with the presence of experienced instructors (climbing, skateboard, slackline, yoga and much more).
Along with the competition, the CAI of La Spezia will organize the event “Sciacchetrail Walk and Wine” a beautiful hike that will start at Vernazza through the trails n. 582 and n. 591 up to the Sanctuary of Reggio and further up to the Sanctuary of Soviore, where there will be a snack with some focaccia and wine with its arrival at Monterosso for lunch time with a pasta party held in the tensile structure at Piazza Belvedere along the seaside.
The Sciacchetrail event is organized by ASD Cinque Terre and Cinque Terre Trekking in collaboration with Pro Loco Monterosso, Cinque Terre Consortium and Consortium In Manarola and the National Commission for UNESCO heritage, whose prestigious award goes to join those of Liguria Region, Cinque Terre National Park and the Town Halls of Riomaggiore, Vernazza and Monterosso.
To wait for the 300 athletes at the finish line in Piazza Garibaldi in Monterosso there will be lots of food stalls with typical Ligurian specialties and local producers of DOC Cinque Terre wine that will help alleviate the fatigue of a day which reminds a day of the past!!!
