From Lerici to Bocca di Magra with the Liguria Trail (SL)

The path goes across the protected area of Montemarcello-Magra-Vara, the easternmost of Liguria, rising halfway up the hills that stand on the Gulf of Poets.
It begins by visiting the historic center of Lerici, a seaside village that closes the Gulf of La Spezia to the east, crossing the original nucleus around the Castle, to the junction for Maralunga; continue here to Tellaro for a few tens of meters, grafting on path no. 433 with Serra direction. From here you can admire the spectacular and uncontaminated stretch of coastline that divides Lerici from Tellaro.
Once you reach the Serra, the path enters the historic center of the small hamlet, then continues gently halfway through the olive groves where you encounter numerous deviations to go down to visit the village of Tellaro. From here you have the most beautiful view of the whole Gulf of Poets, with the promontory of Portovenere and the islands of  Palmaria,  Tino and Tinetto set between sky and sea.

Going eastward you will pass the abandoned villages of Portesone and Barbazzano until you arrive at Zanego, where you will find path no. 424 directed to Ameglia, ancient settlement of the Ligurian people dating back to IV century BC, which is witnessed by the necropolis emerging with archaeological excavations in the seventies.

In this section the path no. 433 continues on the old cobbled mule track and crossing olive groves and pine forests arrives at Montemarcello, which since 2006 is part of the circuit of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Here the look falls down to the coast, on the colorful cliffs that are the natural habitat of the pilgrim falcon.

Going further, you arrive on Mount Caprione, which separates the Gulf of Poets from the estuary of the Magra; in this section, the Liguria trail follows the path of the High Street of the Gulf and meets the beautiful path no. 436 for the beach of  Punta Corvo.
After crossing a huge pine forest, the wide mule track, reaches Bocca di Magra as the destination of our excursion, crossing the side of the Monastery of Santa Croce del Corvo, whose chapel dates back to the year 1000, and the Romanesque archaeological site.
